There is a lot of misinformation about how to take care of your skin these days, and while we don’t pretend to act like we’re dermatology experts in skincare, we have learned a few common mistakes that you could be making in your skincare. A lot of these are from our own experience or our customer's experience. Some of these are from dermatologist's advice as well.
When it comes to skincare

it’s good to start anywhere, but at the same time, we can overdo certain steps, confuse some elements that will result in a different outcome than we are looking for, or not do enough of something we should be doing. I know it sounds confusing so let’s break it down in bullet points.
1. Not Washing Your Face Before Going To Bed
This is a very common mistake and I get you, friend, a lot of the times we come home from work, we end our day after putting the kids to bed and the last thing I wanna do is get out of the couch or bed and wash our faces. But it is very important to take away all the makeup and also wash away any debris or dirt that might’ve stuck to our face.
"Washing your face before bed can prevent breakouts" sleep.org says “Washing the face at bedtime is particularly important because going to bed with residue on the face such as dirt, dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum can worsen skin conditions.”
“Rough washcloths, exfoliating scrubs, or abrasive pads can aggravate the skin (7) and cause acne or rosacea flare-ups. Additionally, dermatologists recommend using a mild, multipurpose soap to prevent irritation, because skin irritation can worsen acne-prone skin.”
That’s why we decided to create our eco-friendly reusable makeup remover pads, because they’re not aggressive to the skin, they’re soft and they’re good for the environment. (Link)

2. Over Exfoliating
Like what we were reading above, about using a mild multi-purpose soap to prevent irritation and avoiding abrasive pads, this is the same with over-exfoliating. Whether you use a sugary scrub or a chemical exfoliants, the recommended use is a once a week maximum twice a week.
Over-exfoliating can dry out your skin, causing rosacea flare ups and other conditions like irritation, redness and inflammation.
“While using a scrub or cleanser with beads might feel soft on day one, scrub too hard or using these products daily can damage the most outer layer of skin.
One sign of over exfoliating is skin hypersensitivity. This can cause irritation, breakouts, and even a stinging feeling when you apply products.” *
3. Changing Products Too Soon
It's difficult to beat the satisfaction of trying a new skin-care product and seeing results instantly. It's also challenging to shake the temptation of trying a new serum, moisturizer, or whatever else Big Brands dropped in your inbox this week.
But, unfortunately, switching your skin-care products too often may slow your progress with any of them.
Most corporate brands use the term "instantly", they promote their products to the public with promises to brighten dark spots, disguise wrinkles, or relieve redness, but we know from experience that things usually don't work that immediately.
Depending on the product, consistency and your age, it can take up to 28-48 days or even longer before you will see any changes. So, make sure you give each product a good chance before you decide that its not the right product for you.
4. Touching Your Face
Touching your face can introduce many unwanted elements. We touch all kinds of surfaces and different elements like bacteria, dirt, oils, and then transfer them to our face.
Washing our hands often is a good way to avoid this but also being extra mindful about not touching our faces is optimal!
We recommend cleansing the face every night even if you don’t wear makeup, removing pollution, oil, dirt, and bacteria is very crucial to keep your face radiant and clean.
If you never used any skincare product long enough we hope you can give our simple skincare routing a try.
5. Unhealthy Lifestyle
Unprotected time in the sun, smoking, drinking alcohol and too much fat, dairy, fast food, sugar or carbs in our diet can result in breakouts, early aging and other skin concerns.
There's a reason why a lot of moisturizers and serums have vitamin C. It helps to stabilize anhydrous products and acts as a boost within a water based formulation.
So we encourage you to add foods that are rich in vitamin a, c, e for example, like broccoli and other green vegetables, tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms, and fruits to your diet.

6. Not Wearing Sun Protection
This is a no brainer at this point but I still hear a lot of people are not wearing sunscreen other than to go to the pool or the beach.
When you hike, take a walk or sit for hours at your kid's soccer game, you're under the sun and the sun is shinning right on you, you should be protecting your skin!
Our Mineral Cream is a medium-weight, minimal-white cast leaving formula that’s charged with pomegranate seed oil extract and antioxidants to fight against the free radicals so you don’t turn pomegranate-red.
We can't say this often enough, protect your skin so you don’t create more problems in the long run.
7. Picking Your Blemishes
Do. Not. Touch, That. Zit. As tempting as it sounds, popping zits and poking at blemishes can cause a bigger infection from your fingers and nails and therefore a bigger blemish and it can also cause scarring.
Our skincare team has been testing our Black Drawing Salve on acne and deep blemishes over the past months and saw great results in eliminating breakouts (especially the deep painful ones).
8. Using Skincare In The Incorrect Order
You might have heard of this, but again, I still hear clients not knowing what to put on first. Easiest way to remember is; go from lightest to thickest in texture.
Start with a cleanser, wash and pat dry your skin. Apply toner. Then serum, then moisturizer, then face oil. If the serum looks oily and thick, apply it after the moisturizer.
If you apply heavier and more oily products before the moisturizer, this one won't be able to get absorbed by the skin as good as it could.
Hope we gave you some helpful tips and that if you are making some of these mistakes, hopefully we’re able to guide you in how to correct them!
